On Wednesday, 14 December 2016, the Company & Law research group of the University of Antwerp organised the “Fashion & Law” seminar.
This seminar addressed a number of legal topics that are essential for starting up and growing a fashion company. During the morning session, the focus was first placed on relevant business models, followed by the for the fashion world key issue of e-commerce (information obligations, advertising and distance selling) and the protection of fashion creations via intellectual rights.
The afternoon session was composed of three practice-oriented workshops. During the workshops presentations by legal experts were supplemented with concrete practical contributions from various domains in the fashion world. As a legal expert, Dave Mertens was leading one of these workshops specifically concerning the distribution of fashion creations.
