In March 2014, Ghent University´s Institute for Continuing Education will begin offering training courses in order to become a Traffic Safety Auditor.   Traffic safety auditing is a procedure that helps to increase traffic safety. Since December 2013 such audits have become obligatory for all new infrastructure projects on the trans-European road network.   In the first part of the course a sound theoretical basis is given, while the second part addresses the audit procedure itself and how it must be conducted. Here the approach is largely practice-oriented: study visit, practical exercises, explanation of a wide range of practical cases, ... In the third part, which is reserved for those wishing to obtain the certificate, under supervision a traffic safety audit is worked out in exercise form.   Part I: Theoretical background: 10, 17, 24 and 31 March, 24 and 28 April and 5 May 2014 Part II: Traffic safety management procedure: 5, 12, 19 and 26 May 2014 Part III: Practical part: 2 and 16 June 2014, on-site visit between 3 and 13 June 2014   This programme makes it possible to obtain a certificate from Ghent University. Such a certificate is one of the conditions for being formally approved as a traffic safety auditor by the Flemish Government.   Within the framework of this Traffic Safety Auditor training course, Attys Marco Schoups, Maarten Somers and Siegfried Busscher will be giving lectures on the legal aspects of traffic safety auditing on 26 May 2014.   For more information: http://www.ivpv.ugent.be/opleidingen/aanbod/verkeer2014/index.htm
