Risks for Contractors of Demolition Work: Two Current Topics

Demolition work is often making headlines these days. The government’s policy is strongly aimed at demolition and reconstruction of existing buildings. For instance, there is the reduced VAT rate for demolition and reconstruction which was recently extended through 31 December 2023. And there are other tax incentives through the registration tax and the advance levy on income derived from real estate. What stands out most is the ‘construction shift deal’ (‘betonstop’ [‘concrete stop’]). In addition, the impact demolition work can have on the environment, including neighbours, is often the subject of discussion.

In this newsletter, we call attention to a specific action neighbours can bring in that respect, notably the preventive action for neighbourhood nuisance.
