Book 5 of the new Civil Code "Obligations" finally voted and adopted

On 21 April 2022, the Chamber of Representatives finally voted and adopted the long-awaited book 5 of the new Civil Code "Commitments".
The book will enter into force on the first day of the sixth month after publication in the Belgian Official Gazette, which will probably follow shortly.

The book reforms and modernises our old Civil Code, with the aim of bringing a new balance between the autonomy of the parties and the role of the judge. The rules contain codifications of established case-law and clarifications of existing rules, but also some novelties. There are interesting changes in many areas and in many branches of law, which we will examine for you in future newsletters and webinars.
